Career
Ahn made her professional debut in 2012 in the musical The Sorrows of Young Werther. Throughout the mid-2010s she built experience in theater and musicals, including The Story of Tail Cotton (2015, directed by her professor), Infinite Power (or Infinite Energy, 2015–2016) where she earned praise for versatile acting, comic timing, and clear vocals as Kim Sol, and other productions such as Hello, Summer, Black Mary Poppins, and plays like Judo Boy.
She transitioned to television around 2018 after signing with an agency (initially Imagine Asia, later Big Boss Entertainment). Early credits included cameos and supporting parts in Life (2018), The Crowned Clown, Kingdom (Netflix, as Mu-yeong’s wife), Possessed, My Fellow Citizens!, Strangers from Hell (Hell Is Other People, as police officer So Jeong-hwa – earning the Unexpected Award at the 2019 OCN Awards), and Diary of a Prosecutor.
Transition to Leading Roles
Her first lead came in the 2021–2022 JTBC drama The One and Only (Only One Person), where she played Pyo In-sook, a terminally ill woman navigating emotional detachment and unexpected connection.
2023 proved pivotal. In JTBC’s The Good Bad Mother she portrayed Lee Mi-joo, a resilient nail artist and single mother of twins who is the childhood friend and former flame of the male lead (Lee Do-hyun). The same year she delivered a career-defining performance as the complex noblewoman Yoo Gil-chae in MBC’s historical romance My Dearest (and Part 2), opposite Namgoong Min. Her emotional range—from spoiled aristocrat to war-scarred survivor—earned widespread critical acclaim, the Top Excellence Award (Actress in a Miniseries) and Best Couple Award at the 2023 MBC Drama Awards, a Best Actress win at the Grimae Awards, and a Best Actress nomination at the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards.
She expanded into film with a notable supporting turn as Jo So-yong in the 2022 period thriller The Night Owl (nominations at Baeksang, Blue Dragon, and others for Best Supporting/New Actress) and Citizen of a Kind (2024).
