Shin Yi made her acting debut in 1998 with a small role as a delinquent in the horror film Whispering Corridors. She gradually built a presence through supporting parts in the early 2000s. Her breakout period came with comic roles in popular films, including Park Kyung-joo in Sex Is Zero (2002) and its sequel Sx Is Zero 2 (2007), as well as appearances in The Greatest Expectation (2003), Everybody Has Secrets (2004), My Boyfriend Is Type B (2005), the Marrying the Mafia series, and Oh!
