Kwak Ji-min made her screen debut in 2003 with a small role as a dance-class junior in the horror film Wishing Stairs (Whispering Corridors 3). Her breakthrough came the following year when she took the leading role of Yeo-jin in Kim Ki-duk’s Samaritan Girl (Samaria). The film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and earned her the Best New Actress award at the 2004 Busan Film Critics Awards, bringing her early international recognition.

She continued with supporting and leading roles in films such as Red Eye (2005), Girl by Girl (2007), Link (2011), My PS Partner (2012), Wedding Scandal (2012, in a dual role), and The Beat Goes On (2012).
