Myung Se-bin entered the entertainment industry in 1996 after being spotted at a department store in Seoul while asking singer Shin Seung-hun for an autograph. An agency representative noticed her and cast her in the music video for Shin’s song “Love in My Own Way.” She then worked as a model for magazines and commercials.

Her acting debut came in 1998 with the KBS dramas Purity (as Yoon Hye-jin) and Paper Crane (as Choi Na-hyun). Both roles earned her the Best New Actress award at the KBS Drama Awards, and she also received the Best New Actress trophy at the 35th Baeksang Arts Awards for Purity.
